HOME, SWEET HOME
We wanted a home, a home with history.
A home in which we could imagine a rich and eventful past, where we could pass our time in peace and where we could build a beautiful future.
We wanted our home to be architecturally interesting with multiple discrete and inspiring spaces.
We found it in the centre of St Feliu de Guixols in a beautifully renovated modernist building dating originally from 1902.
We knew our home had to have multiple architectural elements.
This it achieves perfectly through its choice of noble materials, lighting and beautiful fabrics, ceilings that soar to twelve feet, wooden beams and original stone and brick walls.
And, most splendid of all, a central “Impluvium” patio with an original floor frieze, filled with plants which can be viewed and enjoyed from the whole house.
The furniture had to be timeless, modern and simple – pieces custom designed for each area of the house.
Everything had to be in discreet harmony – so for the bedroom, just one small picture. “The Lady with Blue Hair” by the Japanese painter Munakata, the Picasso of Japan.
And in the living room a single rough wooden sculpture from Madagascar, carved painstakingly by hand.
The result is one of peaceful harmony, both aesthetically and conceptually.
And here we live, here we share our lives, here we work and rest.
Sharing a future that leads effortlessly from a century of the past.
